General Food Technology

The General Food Team provides technical support, to established companies, new companies and entrepreneurs, who are focused on adding value to non-milk and non-meat based raw materials.

Technologists support companies operating in the following sectors:

  • Cereal, bakery and snacks
  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Egg
  • Beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic)
  • Sauces and mayonnaise
  • Confectionery
  • Multi-ingredient convenient products

The team also has experience of farm and company diversification and offers technical evaluation of new products; assisting companies in product innovation.

The team has an extensive experience of food safety management systems, including HACCP, FSPCA, SALSA, BRC and retailer standards. Their expertise includes food labelling, new product development, recipe reformulation and shelf-life extension.

Companies can develop product concepts in our Food Innovation Centre’s commercial kitchen and sensory suite. These concepts can be further developed into viable products by using the technology facilities and equipment in the Food Technology Centre.
