Loughry Campus is the College’s centre of excellence for food technology. It has lead responsibility for people development and knowledge and technology transfer programmes in the food processing and supply industry. Loughry Campus provides key expertise in food manufacture, innovation, safety, packaging and waste minimisation.
Our team of technologists work with over 250 businesses each year, across the key sectors, encouraging innovation, promoting the adoption of technology and deliver a comprehensive range of accredited training courses. Technological development and support programmes are tailored to meet the needs of individual businesses and the industry as a whole, with a client base ranging from business start-up through to multi-national companies.

CAFRE offers expertise and support for the food industry, focusing on consumer insights, reformulation for healthier products, nutritional profiling, sensory analysis, alternative proteins, and bio-fermentation.
Land Use and Circularity
CAFRE can provide the food manufacturing sector with solutions to process new and existing edible crop varieties into innovative and desirable customer goods and products.

CAFRE aims to provide specialist food technology exploration and development of tailored innovation projects for the Food Industry.

The food supply chain is global, dynamic, and complex. New and challenging risks are emerging, including climate change, threat of cyber-attacks, product contamination, and unexpected shutdowns of key supply chain infrastructure.
Food and drink packaging
CAFRE can provide specialist testing and solutions for food packaging issues including the testing of packaging alternatives and/or sustainable packaging solutions.
