CAFRE to host soil fertility webinar

January 28, 2021

Wednesday 10th February, 7.30pm

The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), will host an online webinar entitled ‘Building Soil Fertility on Farm’ on Wednesday 10th February at 7.30pm.

A study carried out by AFBI in 2014-2015 showed that 64% of soils in Northern Ireland are below optimum for pH. This webinar aims to highlight on farm practice which can help to improve soil fertility and grassland production on farm, whilst also helping to improve environmental conditions and nutrient management.

The topics to be covered during this event will include, soil analysis and interpretation of your soil report, how to assess soil pH and managing P and K indices and the final topic will look at utilisation of slurry and manures and targeted chemical fertiliser applications.

The panel will be made up of the following CAFRE staff, Hannah McNelis (Beef and Sheep Adviser) who will chair the event and the speakers will include Aveen McMullan (Senior Agri-Environment Technologist), John Moore, (Senior Beef and Sheep Adviser) and Alan Agnew (Senior Dairy Adviser)

Following the presentations, there will be a live question and answer session. The event will be broadcast via WebEx and there will be the opportunity to ask questions via an online question and answer facility which allows you to type questions that will be considered by the panel during the event.

If you require further information in relation to this event or you have a specific question you would like to ask, please send these in advance by emailing them to Hannah.McNelis@daera-ni.gov.uk. These will be answered by the panel during the event.
