2000 Farm Family Members trained in First Aid

Over 2000 farm family members have completed Farm Families First Aid Awareness training. This training is delivered over an evening to farm family members at local venues across Northern Ireland through CAFRE’s Farm Family Key Skills (FFKS) scheme.
The training is specifically tailored to the farming sector, covering a wide range of first aid emergencies encountered on farms. It helps participants to deal with emergency situations confidently, promptly and safely. People attending a workshop will also receive a complimentary First Aid box with training on its contents and their use to treat minor injuries.
The Farm Safety Partnership has highlighted that as many as 100 accidents per month require medical attention on Northern Ireland farms.

Mr Harry Sinclair, chairman of the Farm Safety Partnership (FSP) said “It is great to see so many people taking the opportunity to gain First Aid knowledge. Whilst we in the Farm Safety Partnership want to reduce the number of farm accidents, it is still very important for people to know basic First Aid skills that can minimise the impact of an accident if one does happen”
Trainees are finding the course very enjoyable as well as having the opportunity to learn key life-saving skills, practice carrying out treatments and discuss what to do in the event of different scenarios. Comments include “I would highly recommend farm family members to take advantage of this training as knowing what to do can make a huge difference”.
Training is free to farming families and is delivered by Global Horizon Skills Ltd. on behalf of NFU Mutual. It is an important element of the Rural Development Programme 2014 -2020.
Martin Malone of NFU Mutual and a member of the FSP board was delighted at the progress of the scheme to date and hopes that the farming community will continue to take advantage of this very important training opportunity.
Two open courses have been arranged for March/April
Tuesday 5th March – Omagh Enterprise Centre
Thursday 2nd April – Fermanagh House, Broadmeadow Place, Enniskillen
Due to the practical nature of the course, training is delivered to groups of 20 people, so pre-booking is necessary.
