Michigan State University (MSU) Exchange Programme
The very successful CAFRE / Michigan State University (MSU) Student Exchange Programme has been running since 1994. To date, 100 CAFRE students have participated in the programme with a similar number from MSU coming to CAFRE. Each year up to four Higher Education students are offered the opportunity to study for a semester at one of the leading universities in the United States. They study modules that complement their CAFRE course, get involved in a wide range of clubs and societies and immerse themselves in American culture.
The long-term impact of the exchange is remarkable. Participants benefit academically, socially and professionally, developing skills highly valued by employers. Above all, however, it is the life experience that leaves the greatest impression. Students return home more independent, resilient, and confident, having formed friendships that often last a lifetime.
Each year, bursaries valued at approximately £7,500 are awarded to successful applicants. These bursaries cover the cost of accommodation and meals and make a significant contribution towards medical insurance, travel expenses, and transfers to and from the university.

“There are so many things I loved about MSU. The campus is huge. It’s beautiful landscaped and spreads across five square miles. There are over 50,000 students on campus – it felt like its own little city, with buses, banks, and even a police station.
I also made friends from all over the world. On my first day, I met a group of German students who I immediately clicked with and shared a lot of adventures together. We travelled to some amazing places — The Great Lakes, Chicago and the Horseshoe Bend in Arizona and finished our time at MSU with a two-week trip to Puerto Rico. I just know we will be friends for life. Studying at MSU was the best thing I have ever done”.
