CAFRE

Laura Reddick

Laura Reddick joined CAFRE as a student after she completed her GCSEs at Newtownhamilton High School, enrolling on a Level 3 Food Technology programme at Loughry Campus as an alternative to A-Levels. As a Further Education student, Laura had the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills required for a successful career in the agri-food industry. In addition she was able to apply what she was learning through the completion of a 12 week work placement with a local food manufacturing business. About her learning as a further education student, Laura said:

“Studying at Loughry exposed me to great variety in teaching and learning; the balance of classroom based learning and practical’s provided me with a great insight in to the reality of working in the food industry which is very fast paced in nature. The industry placement I completed as part of my studies gave me great experience of the world of work in the agri-food industry”.

Following completion of the Level 3 Food Technology programme, Laura decided to continue her studies at CAFRE, enrolling on the BSc (Hons) in Food Technology, which is validated by Ulster University. Laura graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in 2019. During her time on the degree course, Laura won an industry bursary and had further opportunities to work within the agri-food industry in new product development roles. It was ultimately the experience she gained through her studies at Loughry Campus and during her 48 week industrial placement with Moy Park that helped Laura secure a full time role with the company upon graduation, as a Graduate Management Trainee in the Product Development team.

Speaking about her graduate role, Laura said:

“I am thoroughly enjoying my role within the Product Development team at Moy Park. Every day is so different and I have had the opportunity to be involved in and lead many projects for our different customers, right from the customer brief to product launch. I love to see the new products that I have developed being sold on the retailer shelves; that provides me with a real sense of satisfaction and accomplishment”.

With consumer trends always changing, Laura, like many of CAFRE’s food graduates, has a satisfying career ahead of her. Laura has achieved great success since she joined CAFRE after completing her GCSEs and is one of the many students who has discovered an exciting career in the agri- food industry as a Loughry graduate.
