Technical Assistant

Doherty & Gray Ltd is a family run business established in 1954 by the current Managing Director’s father. In 1988 the company moved to the current site which is in a small industrial estate on the outskirts of Ballymena. The site comprises of a boning hall, supplying beef and lamb carcases to local butchers and beef primals to the wholesale market across Europe and a sausage / burger production area supplying sausages, burgers and meatballs to major retailers across Northern Ireland.

Doherty & Gray Ltd are currently recruiting a Technical Assistant.

Working as part of a strong Technical Team the successful applicant will provide support with the following duties;

• Check and collate daily quality records
• Conduct routine temperature, label and other quality checks as required
• Collecting samples for external analysis as required by the Quality Manager
• Completing GMP and hygiene audits
• Updating internal documentation including quality records as required, issuing and maintaining document control
• Collating data for traces as required by company systems, customers and third-party inspections
• Ensuring that all taste panels, shelf lives and organoleptic testing is completed and recorded in conjunction with company procedures
• Completing internal calibration of temperature probes
• Involvement in preparing for BRC and customer audits        
• Other duties as required by the management team

What Doherty & Gray Ltd require:

• 3rd level qualification in a food related discipline
• Experience in a food manufacturing environment
• Flexible, adaptable and keen to learn
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• The ability to work well under pressure, prioritise and have excellent attention to detail
