REACT is seeking to recruit a Sessional Horticultural Programme Facilitator to deliver a variety of programmes based on the REACT Community Allotment Garden in Armagh.

The REACT Community Allotment Garden is a new and exciting project which promotes mental health and wellbeing, and offers social support to individuals directly affected by the Northern Ireland Conflict. The Horticultural Programme Facilitator will work alongside project participants to develop the REACT Allotment Garden and support participants with horticultural activities such as:

  • How to prepare and plant growing beds
  • Soil health
  • Preparing for the spring season and growing seasonal crops
  • Companion planting
  • Growing from seed and plant propagation
  • Natural pest control
  • Creating wildlife friendly habitats and protecting pollinators

Role and Responsibilities

  1. To work directly with project participants to develop the REACT Community Allotment Garden site.  
  2. Provide horticultural advice and support on allotment activities
  3. Maintain confidentiality and work within the boundaries of the data protection act and safeguarding legislation
  4. Comply with REACT policies and procedures
  5. Work autonomously and take responsibility for managing own work
  6. Contribute to the evaluation of the overall effectiveness of the project
  7. Liaise as required with other members of staff  about the management of project

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants will be required to meet thefollowing Eligibility Criteria.

  1. Training and practical experience that is deemed to be relevant to the work of the post
  2. Experience of working with people in a setting that is relevant to the work of the post
  3. Excellent communication skills
  4. Ability to work independently
  5. Ability to ensure the health, safety and welfare of self and others whilst onsite

Terms and Conditions

  • Hourly rate: £15 per hour
  • Contracted hours: 160 hours
  • Start date: January 2022
  • Contracts may be extended dependent on funding
  • Based in Armagh

Termination of Contract

REACT reserves the right to terminate the contract at any time following one month’s notice to do so.  However, any breaches of contract may result in immediate termination. The contract may be cancelled by the successful tenderer provided one months’ notice in writing has been given.
