WD Meats would like to invite applications for the post of Quality Assurance Technician.

In recognition of the importance of this post it will attract an annual wage in excess of 30k per year including bonuses following training. Overtime will be in addition to this.

During training the pay rate is a minimum of £9.36 for under 21 year olds and £10.94 for over 21 year olds per hour with overtime paid after 40 hours worked. This can vary depending upon previous experience.

Following the completion of training this will rise to £14.06 per hour (not age dependent) again with overtime paid after 40 hours worked with an additional attendance and timekeeping bonus paid weekly.

WD Meats carries out a wide range of processing steps on a single site from slaughter through to retail packing of beef products.

We are also one of the few plants to have our own Laboratory on site which includes the modern Biomerieux Tempo microbiological system.

The successful candidate will work within the Quality Assurance department covering a wide variety of work areas within the plant.

This will include as typical duties.

  • Implementing and assisting in the development of the site HACCP system
  • Carrying out checks on product during production to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Taking samples for analyses both on site and externally.
  • Operate the onsite lab where required.
  • Carrying out internal audits.
  • Assist in the general development and implementation of the site Quality system.

The company generally only operates from a Monday to Friday except during peak production periods a few weeks of the year were working on a Saturday morning may be required.

Fluent written and spoken English is a requirement for this post as reports to external customers and bodies will be required. Problem solving including root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions will form part of this role.

All applicants must have excellent communication skills, be computer literate and able to use Microsoft Office Suite.

A formal third level qualification in a food related discipline would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be given.

Initial training will involve internal training on quality systems and the completion of a third level qualification in Food Safety in Manufacturing and an Internal Auditing qualification.

All applicants must have access to their own transport and have a full driving licence as they will be required to travel as part of the Job.
