Three-month temporary position

The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) are seeking 2x Project Assistants to help deliver a programme of food growing activities in Derry/Londonderry as part of the Acorn Farm Project, which will support people to tackle climate change hands-on by growing their own food and learning about how their food choices affect the environment.

TCV’s role in the Acorn Farm Project involves supporting 200 households/families across the Derry City and Strabane District Council area to grow food at home, beginning the creation of a more sustainable food system.

Location and Geographical Area
The post is based at TCV’s office at Brooke Park in Derry/Londonderry, where TCV has new purpose-built premises including office, training room, workshop and a garden with polytunnels.

Main Activities
The main activities the Project Assistant will undertake are as follows:

1) Help to grow vegetable plants, including planting, care and watering.
2) Help to construct wooden planters for the Acorn Farm Grow at home project.
3) Deliver compost and planters to Acorn Farm participants across the Derry City Council area.
4) Help to deliver Horticulture Training courses to garden owners and the general public.
5) Help to promote the project.

Experience
Applicants should ideally have relevant experience in horticulture and growing plants or vegetables growing. Experience of working with volunteers and the public is also helpful.

A full, clean or near clean UK driving licence is required for this post, which has been held for a minimum of one year.
