Overall Responsibilities: Being an integral part of new product design and development processes, from inception to completion. As an NPD technologist you will work collaboratively with cross functional teams to deliver exciting new concepts for major retailers including M&S & Tesco.

Key Responsibilities: –

  • Management of retailers throughout the development and launch process.
  • Carry out competitor and market reviews identifying trends in ingredients, flavours and concept builds appropriate for new customer product briefs.
  • Identify future thinking opportunities, helping deliver on the NPD/commercial calendar.
  • Generate product information sheets, prepare product samples and presentations according to customer requirements throughout development stage gates,
  • Be responsible for sample requests, getting samples baked, packed, and dispatched safely to the destinations.
  • Identify new suppliers, as well as working with our existing portfolio to source new raw materials and packaging concepts.
  • Recipe and raw material management ensuring items are fit for use against customer codes of practice with technical.
  • Travel to supplier sites to build relationships and ways of working.
  • Collate operating procedural data from the NPD kitchen and validate this at upscaled pre-production trials.
  • Understand commercials of product concepts with clear rationale for the product positioning.
  • Carry out analytical tests for shelf-life validation.
  • Validating new and existing packaging against new product briefs.
  • Be an active part of hosting internal customer visits, setting up product displays and supporting requirements.
  • Generate and provide ongoing updates of product critical paths ensuring deadlines are achieved.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested to fulfil the requirements of the role and to support additional business departments.

Other Duties

  • Maintain accurate site records/documentation in association with all NPD requirements, complete final sign off ensuring 100% accuracy.
  • Co-ordinate the transfer of all materials and ingredients, ensuring traceability is followed at all times using the Steven System to ensure 100% compliance is obtained.
  • Good Manufacturing Practices are to be implemented and maintained.
  • Clean as you go work environment in all areas.
  • Quality – Ensure integrity and collation is implemented in all aspects of the production process to ensure standards are met for all Customers audits, SEDEX and BRC requirements.  Participate in audits as required.
  • Adhere at all times to the Ethical Trading Initiative Base code.
  • You must take care of your own health and safety and that of people who may be affected by what you do (or do not do).
  • Complete any other associated task requested by the Management.

Qualifications/EducationGraduate in Food Technology or similar science related degree.Have minimum of 2 years’ within a food manufacturing role. 
Working PatternMonday – Friday (0830 to 1700) Travel to customer and supplier sites may be required outside of working hours.Flexibility will be required to fulfil the requirements of the role, which may include early mornings, night shift trials.
