Dunleath Estates, Ballywalter
The farm at Dunleath Estates is a 1200-acre dairy located on the edge of Ballywalter, Co. Down consisting of:
- 400 cow autumn calving herd, paddock grazing, averaging 9500 litres per cow.
- Twice daily milking through a 40-point GEA rotary parlour
- All young stock reared on site
- 250kW anaerobic digester
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
- Applicants should have the following qualities:
- Experience of all aspects of dairy cow management, including milking, heat detection, diet-feeding, calving and health monitoring
- General knowledge of animal husbandry
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
- It would be desirable for applicants to be able to demonstrate some, or all, of the following:
- Knowledge or experience of grassland management
- Knowledge or experience of computerised record keeping for livestock enterprises
- Experience in calf and young stock rearing
- Knowledge or experience of the day-to-day maintenance of dairy equipment and other farm machinery
- Experience in tractor driving
OUTLINE OF DUTIES:
- Working in a team of five, duties include:
- Milking twice daily
- Day-to-day stock work associated with the efficient running of the livestock enterprises
- Dry stock management
- Occasional tractor work
- Input to herd-management decision making
- Night checks as required
- Assistance with other farm and estate management operations as required
REMUNERATION:
• Expected full time salary to be £25,000 to £30,000 pa commensurate with experience
• Detached house available on farm
• Flexible working hours will apply
• Holidays are in line with the Agricultural Wages Board, currently 28 days including bank holidays
• This is a permanent and full-time position with the possibility of career progression within this long-established business
