Head Gardener

As the centerpiece of 365 acres of mixed farm and woodland, Killeavy Castle Estate in County Armagh’s stunning Slieve Gullion are currently recruiting for a head gardener to join their team.

Job Specification

In your role as Head Gardener, you will be responsible for managing the garden operations of the Estate, working with senior-level management to ensure the constant supply of fresh produce to the outlets and also the upkeep of the estate as required.

To ensure that the estate positively projects itself with a farm-to-fork ethos and that the gardens and environs are maintained to the highest standard.  Key duties include:

• Develop a planting schedule with the Head Chef that will best fit the supply requirements of the Estate including the hotel, castle, kitchens and farm store.
• Maintaining and developing the gardens of the Estate.
• In charge of grass cutting, weed control and leaf raking.
• Planting new trees, flowers and various plants as required and to budgets and in line with the surrounding landscape.
• Maintenance of plant tub baskets, be they internal or external.
• Making sure that all garden equipment is correctly maintained and serviced.
• Seeding plants and watering them at the correct times.

Job Specification

• At least 1-2 years experience in a similar role.
• Self-motivated and have the ability to prioritise work.
• Ability to work on own initiative.
• Have the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to use a wide range of horticultural machinery and powered hand tools.
• Certification in pesticide use.
• Good knowledge of plants and vegetables.
• Knowledge of organic gardening methods and techniques.
• First Aid Qualification.
