Head Gardener

An exciting opportunity for an experienced gardener to be part of the restoration of a Victorian Walled Garden in Helen’s Bay Co. Down has arose. The garden area is approx.1.5 acres currently growing organic vegetables and fruit for a CSA box scheme, farm shop, and a small number of select restaurants. Restoration of the garden and wider site is ongoing.

The successful candidate will:

• Continue the restoration of the garden to its original role of propagating and growing a select variety of vegetables, fruit, flowers and herbs.
• Understand the role and value of a Walled Garden in promoting health and wellbeing through its events and educational courses.
•  Be familiar with a range of measures which can be employed in the workings of this eco.friendly garden.
• Be responsible for recruiting and managing volunteers.
• Maintain equipment in good working order.
• Assist in the running of events in the garden
• Undertake additional tasks and duties as they arise from time to time.

The post is available immediately and will be a standard 40hr week.

Working hours will vary on a seasonal basis.

Salary will be negotiable depending on qualifications and experience.

A preliminary informal visit to the Walled Garden by interested candidates is welcome.
