Down Royal Racecourse is seeking a Groundsperson to join the track team, where responsibilities include the provision of a safe racing surface and excellent facilities for all race meetings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and restoration of the racing surface through:
    – Timely and effective post-racecourse repair
    – Appropriate grass cutting
    – Careful use of machinery
    – Regular movement of rail to create fresh running lines.
  • Assist in the preparation of fences and hurdles.
  • Safely apply fertilizers and weed control materials.
  • Assist with track irrigation.
  • Ensure year-round high standards of presentation of the track and stables and assist within the parade ring and wider grounds where necessary. 
  • Assist in the supervision of casual staff, both Raceday, and non-Raceday.
  • Undertake any other commensurate duties as directed by the Track Foreman. 

Skills: 

Training will be provided, but the following attributes are desirable:

  • Basic knowledge and interest in agronomy and turf husbandry
  • Ability to operate a range of agricultural machinery.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance of agricultural equipment.
  • Basic knowledge and interest in the horse racing industry
  • Spraying certificates would be an advantage. 
  • A driver’s license and ability to drive a tractor would be an advantage.
