Groundsperson
Down Royal Racecourse is seeking a Groundsperson to join the track team, where responsibilities include the provision of a safe racing surface and excellent facilities for all race meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and restoration of the racing surface through:
– Timely and effective post-racecourse repair
– Appropriate grass cutting
– Careful use of machinery
– Regular movement of rail to create fresh running lines. - Assist in the preparation of fences and hurdles.
- Safely apply fertilizers and weed control materials.
- Assist with track irrigation.
- Ensure year-round high standards of presentation of the track and stables and assist within the parade ring and wider grounds where necessary.
- Assist in the supervision of casual staff, both Raceday, and non-Raceday.
- Undertake any other commensurate duties as directed by the Track Foreman.
Skills:
Training will be provided, but the following attributes are desirable:
- Basic knowledge and interest in agronomy and turf husbandry
- Ability to operate a range of agricultural machinery.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance of agricultural equipment.
- Basic knowledge and interest in the horse racing industry
- Spraying certificates would be an advantage.
- A driver’s license and ability to drive a tractor would be an advantage.
