This is a job for an all-rounder somebody who wants to be active both practically and organisationally. We are a 1100 cow outdoor diary with 2 rotary parlours rearing all of our own replacements and beef calves to 12 weeks old. We also have 200 sow indoor Pig business with a land holding of 2300 acres.

Salary: 45K. plus quality accommodation.

The person will work across all areas as required.

Duties will cover all aspects of the business from:

  • Erecting and repairing electric fences.
  • Occasional milking.
  • Overseeing milking team.
  • Loading pigs.
  • Crossing cows.
  • Repairing burst water pipes.
  • Grass measuring.
  • Calving cows.
  • Weighing cows and young stock.
  • Providing holiday and relief cover for any of the roles on the farm.
  • Tag reading.
  • Preparing passports.
  • Grass strategy including spring and autumn rotation planners.
  • Power washing.
  • Feeding milk calves.
  • Bedding with the straw chopper.
  • Treating antibiotic cows.
  • Drying off.
  • Night checks.
  • Assisting with all aspects of labour strategy.
  • Assisting with forming and executing grazing policy.
  • Loading and unloading lorries.
  • Feeding animals via TMR.
  • Pumping slurry.
  • Rearing youngstock.
  • Creating work schedules & recording work done.
  • Monitoring hours worked of the team.
  • Driving the scraper tractor.
  • Being competent in all aspects of our dairy system so that you can step in and do anything at any time when needed.
  • Topping.
  • Feeding out in the paddock.
  • Being on call to cover breakouts and emergency break downs.
  • Minimising problems and unforced errors but assisting with Firefighting unexpected problems when they occur.
  • Assisting with maintaining the farms high standards.
  • The key duty is being a fixer for the manager.

You will do of all of the above and more as the list is not exhaustive and is intentionally unordered. This is an exciting job for an enthusiastic person who wants to learn from a business at the fore front of modern agriculture.
