Grow with the Flow – Hydroponics in Horticulture

As part of the Northern Ireland Science Festival Week activities for schools CAFRE is delighted to invite students to explore Horticulture science in action. Staff at Greenmount Campus, Antrim are offering an exciting workshop to demonstrate the use of hydroponics as a growing substrate.

Friday 23rd February 2024, 10:00am and 12:30pm

The growth in world population creates challenges, for available land, water, and topsoil with which to grow food. Could hydroponics offer a sustainable option to feed future generations?

With a focus on the GCSE Double Award Science specification – Photosynthesis and Plants, the ‘Grow with the flow’ workshop will investigate hydroponics. Join us at CAFRE and spend some time looking at different methods of growing plants (some with soil and some without). During this practical workshop you will also make your own hydroponics kit to take back to school.
