Foundation Degree in Agriculture and Technology (part-time) “I am currently completing the Foundation Degree in Agriculture and Technology on a part-time basis. I was brought up on a suckler beef farm in Caledon Co Tyrone and my experience on the home farm lead to a passion for cattle breeding and livestock production. I spent a number of years working part-time on the farm and full-time off farm in a range of different agriculture related roles including engineering, poultry, dairying, and beef and sheep management accounting. I was keen to further my career in agriculture through achieving a qualification in higher education. This led me to CAFRE‚Äôs part-time Foundation Degree which I could complete while continuing to work in industry. The animal science module has been particularly useful, giving me a detailed knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of a range of livestock species and deepened my understanding of concepts in livestock production. The broad base of technical knowledge I am learning through this course will broaden my employment opportunities in the animal nutrition and feed sector and I am looking forward to the rest of the programme.”
