Claire Marshall, Linden Foods
BSc (Hons) Food Business Management After completing my GCSE’s, I studied at Loughry for a National Diploma in Food Nutrition and Health. I decided to stay on at Loughry after this and enrolled in the BSc (Hons) in Food Business Management. I graduated in June 2017 with a First Class Honours Degree.
I chose to study at Loughry because of the practical nature of the courses, the modern, specialist facilities and the links with the food industry. The tuition fees were also very attractive. During the six years I studied at Loughry, I had the opportunity to develop many transferable skills including practical skills, problem solving, interpersonal skills, time management and teamwork. These are the skills I now use in my everyday life as a graduate.
In the third year of my studies, I completed a one year placement at Linden Foods in Dungannon as New Product Development Technologist. On successful completion of this placement, I achieved a Diploma in Industrial Studies, an additional qualification to my degree. I am now back working in Linden Foods as a Junior Sales Account Manager. This is a very exciting role. As an Account Manager I am responsible for some of Linden Foods key customers, acting as the main point of contact between the customer and Linden Foods. My job role includes proposing new product listings, negotiating prices to generate sales, as well as liaising with other parts of our business to ensure our products reach my customer on time and to the correct specification. I also have to research the market place and keep up to date with changing product trends. Studying at Loughry has prepared me well for this challenging, yet rewarding, role.
