Level 3 Apprenticeship/Work-based Diploma in Landscape Maintenance

This two year part-time City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Horticulture course develops the practical skills and underpinning knowledge related to working in the amenity horticulture sector. The course can be completed through the Apprenticeships NI Framework giving applicants the flexibility to combine work with education. The course is specifically aimed at people maintaining parks and open spaces and those offering professional landscape maintenance services. On completion of this course, students receive a Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Horticulture.

Course content

  • Constructing hard landscape features
  • Estimate resources and manage areas
  • Machinery operations
  • Plant use and knowledge
  • Pruning trees and shrubs
  • Site analysis and marking out
  • Turf establishment
Course Progression

This course may provide students with an opportunity to progress their career in the landscaping sector.

Course Entry Requirements

Normally applicants must be working in landscape maintenance for a minimum of 21 hours per week and have attained a Grade C or above in English Language, Mathematics and ICT or equivalent qualifications. A Level 2 Diploma in Horticulture or an equivalent qualification is desirable.

OR

Applicants who can demonstrate significant relevant industry experience will also be considered. These applicants may be required to submit work-based evidence and undertake written assessments and/or practical competence tests as part of the assessment.

Students who have not attained GCSE English Language, Mathematics or ICT at Grade C or above will have to complete Essential Skills in Application of Number, Communication, and Information and Communication Technology as part of their Apprenticeship programme of study.

Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate Foundation Level are not considered as meeting entry requirements for CAFRE programmes.  If you require guidance on entry qualifications please email the Key Contact for this course.
