Level 3 Apprenticeship/Work-based Diploma in Floristry
This is a practical, work-related City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Work-based Floristry course. It is designed to develop the skills of those working in the floristry industry, who have achieved a Level 2 Floristry qualification, or who have extensive industry experience. Students attend the college one day per week and are in the workplace for a minimum of 21 hours each week. The course can be completed through the Apprenticeships NI Framework giving applicants the flexibility to combine work with education.
Course Entry Requirements
Normally applicants must be working in a flower shop for a minimum of 21 hours per week and have attained a Grade C or above in English Language, Mathematics and ICT or equivalent qualifications. A Level 2 in Floristry or an equivalent qualification is desirable.
OR
Applicants who can demonstrate significant relevant industry experience will also be considered. These applicants may be required to submit work-based evidence and undertake written assessments and/or practical competence tests as part of the assessment.
Learners who have not attained GCSE English Language, Mathematics or ICT at Grade C or above will have to complete Essential Skills in Application of Number, Communication, and Information and Communication Technology as part of their Apprenticeship programme of study.
Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate Foundation Level are not considered as meeting entry requirements for CAFRE programmes. If you require guidance on entry qualifications please email the Key Contact for this course.

- Creative design process for florists
- Design and evaluation: arrangements, tied, sympathy and wedding
- Managing resources and events
- Working in the floristry industry
Learners make good industry contacts through events at the college. They are encouraged to develop their skills set and build their CV through competition work and have the opportunity to enter design competitions.
Course Progression
The course aims to develop the skills of those working in the floristry industry.
On completion of the programme learners may continue in employment and progress to posts as senior florists, managers or freelance designers. There are excellent career prospects for trained florists in Ireland, the UK and abroad.
