Level 2 Apprenticeship/Work-based Diploma in Agriculture

This City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Work-based Agriculture course places an emphasis on practical skills development. Students attend class one day per week with the other four days being spent working on a farm. The course can be completed through the Apprenticeship NI Framework giving applicants the flexibility to combine work and gaining an agricultural qualification. The course requires employment on a farm with ‘off-the-job’ training and assessment at Greenmount Campus, Enniskillen Campus, Loughry Campus, Banbridge, Maghera or Markethill, subject to demand.

Basic skills include:

  • Animal health and welfare
  • Animal selection and breeding
  • Feeding livestock
  • Keeping farm records
  • Manual handling
  • Routine treatments eg: dosing, injecting
Course Progression

This course provides students with an opportunity to progress on to the part-time Level 3 Apprenticeship/Work-based Diploma in Agriculture or on to the full-time Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Agriculture.

Course Entry Requirements

Applicants must normally have obtained at least two Grade Cs or three Grade Ds at GCSE, including English Language and Mathematics.

If the course is oversubscribed, entry criteria may be enhanced in line with the College’s Admission Policy.

Applicants should also normally have gained 40 hours relevant experience in agriculture before commencing the course.

Students who have not attained GCSE English Language, Mathematics or ICT at Grade C or above will have to complete Essential Skills in Application of Number, Communication, and Information and Communication Technology as part of their Apprenticeship programme of study.

Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate Foundation Level are not considered as meeting entry requirements for CAFRE programmes.  If you require guidance on entry qualifications please email the Key Contact for this course.
