BSc (Hons) Degree in Sustainable Agri-Food Management*
This new Honours Degree in Sustainable Agri-Food Management is subject to validation by Ulster University and will be offered from September 2025. This programme aims to prepare graduates for entry into the competitive global agri-food industry at management level. The comprehensive curriculum will provide graduates with a deep understanding of the agri-food supply chain, addressing current and future industry challenges related to traceability, sustainability, and logistics. This degree is perfect for individuals interested in business management, agri-food supply chain management, sustainability, and the broader agri-food sector. The course will cover aspects of agriculture and horticulture primary production, food manufacturing, and food quality, along with modules focusing on supply chain and strategic management. Graduates will also develop skills to lead, anticipate, and adapt to changes in the agri-food industry confidently and professionally.
Course Entry Requirements
In addition to meeting the course entry requirements applicants must also meet the General Entrance Requirements for Ulster University They must show evidence of competence in written and spoken English (GCSE Grade C or equivalent) and, where specified within individual course entry requirements, in numeracy (GCSE Grade C or equivalent).
Applicants should normally have 96 UCAS tariff points at A2 Level, including a Grade C or higher in either Business or a Science-related subject*. In addition, applicants must have achieved GCSE Mathematics at Grade C or equivalent and GCSE Science at Grade C or higher. An equivalent standard in an approved alternative qualification may be accepted. The initial offer standard may vary from year to year.
In addition, students need to provide evidence of passes in five different subjects, two of which should be at GCE Advanced Level (A Level Grades A to E) and three at GCSE Level (Grades A to C) or an equivalent standard in an approved alternative qualification.
*Science-related subjects at A2 level or equivalent include: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Applied Science, Physics, Nutrition and Food Science, Environmental Science/Technology, Geography, Health and Social Care, Life and Health Sciences, Physical Education, Agricultural Science.
For other qualifications, including Irish Leaving Certificate, please consult the UCAS website Tariff Tables. Work placement
CAFRE has superb industry connections and helps students to secure quality work placements.
Students undertaking the four-year course will complete one year of work-based learning placement in the food industry during year three of their programme. On successful completion of the 48-week placement a Diploma in Professional Practice (DPP) will be awarded.
Work placements encourage students to develop practical and managerial skills, and give students the opportunity to demonstrate transferable skills in ICT, problem solving and communication. Students can complete their work placement either locally or abroad. Work placements often lead to high quality manager/ trainee manager posts on graduation.
Additional qualifications
During the course, students may have the opportunity to achieve additional, nationally recognised qualifications to complement their course, which can give a competitive advantage in employment or career progression.
Course Progression
Students may have the opportunity to progress onto relevant postgraduate studies.
This course provides students with career prospects in a range of managerial posts in areas such as new product development, supply chain management, quality and research in agri-food and related industries.
