Bracken Control


Bracken is an invasive weed that can take over whole areas of land significantly reducing its stock carrying capacity and it also has a detrimental effect on the range of plant species meaning a reduction of biodiversity. In addition land that is infested with bracken is not eligible for the Basic Payment Scheme.

Who is the course for?

Farmers who wish to learn how to control bracken on their land.

The importance of controlling bracken, methods of bracken control, the results of the CAFRE technology project on bracken control.

Course Dates

Thurs 13th June Glenarm Estate 2pm, Thurs 13th June Glenarm Estate 7pm.

Thurs 20th June Northern Counties Co-op, Swatragh 2pm.

Please bring clean footwear suitable to go through a disinfectant footdip.

Directions to Glenarm Site ; 

After approx 0.7miles from the South end of the Munie Rd the site will be signed into a farm laneway.

(Access to the plot sites is only via the top of Munie Road, there is no access from the main estate entrance at the coast)


Directions to Swatragh Site ;

Event commences at the Northern Counties Co-op on the Carhill Rd, 300m north of Swatragh.

(Visitors will be bussed a short distance from there to the field site)
