Specifications Technologist

Job Description & Purpose

• Full responsibility for the management of specifications, to include: Customer Specifications, Internal Production Specifications, Raw Material Specifications (Ingredients, Meats and Packaging) and Quality Attribute Specifications
• To maintain all systems and paperwork, ensuring due diligence and traceability.
• Technical checking and approval of all artwork
• Ensure critical paths are adhered to and deadlines are met
• Any relevant project work
• Management of the bill of materials 
• Completion of commercial documentation for new products

Core responsibilities

• Completion of customer specifications and factory specifications to the correct format on a right first-time basis
• Proof reading technical data on raw material specifications and ensuring customer/legal compliance and liaising with suppliers to ensure this.
• Calculation and generating ingredient declarations for finished products in required customer format
• Estimating the meat content of products by both theoretical methods (QUID) and by analysis of results received from the laboratory. 
• Compiling nutritional panels by analysing laboratory data and creating results from a nutritional data base and raw material specifications in order to meet customer own label requirements
• Dealing with customer queries as and when they arise
• Keeping abreast of customer requirements in relation to specifications / labelling legislation / relevant customer criteria etc
• Accurately proof reading the technical text on customer artwork
• Presentation of product specifications to customers during visits and audits and implementing corrective action where necessary
• Attend appropriate meetings as and when required
• Participation in problem solving and project work as allocated
• Undertake any courses / activities to improve the skills knowledge of the team or individual
• Undertake any travel to customers / sites in relation to job role
• Completion of commercial documentation for new products
• Creation and Maintenance of the bill of materials
• Creation and Maintenance of photo standards attached to the specifications
• Taking part in QAS session’s as required and updating specifications with QAS information
