The College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) along with Technology Demonstration Farmer David Sandford are hosting a short online farm tour which will focus on the creation and management of options available under the Environmental Farming Scheme (EFS).

The online farm tour will be held on Tuesday 20th September 2022 at 7.30pm.

This event is for existing EFS participants and those wishing to make an application to join EFS in tranche 6 which is currently open for applications until 23rd September.

During the online farm tour, you will get the opportunity to hear from one of our leading agri-environmental farmers and ask questions about habitat creation and what options within EFS may be suitable for your farm.

The Sandford Family run an arable and forestry farm with a focus on creating habitats for wildlife and biodiversity. Portloughan Farm is located on the southern shores of Strangford Lough and is part of the EFS. All of the EFS options on the farm were established with the aim of assisting wildlife and biodiversity in the form of establishing uncropped, grass and cultivated arable field margins and retaining winter stubble to provide cover and a source of winter-feed for farmland birds. With the help of previous schemes, David has also established areas of hedging and woodland.
