Pre-purchase examinations when buying a horse – A vets perspective

25 Sep 2024

Enniskillen Campus

Wednesday 25th September 2024, 7:30pm

Anyone who has been involved in looking for or buying a horse will have heard the term ‘pre-purchase examination’ or ‘vetting’ but what is really involved in this. On Wednesday 25th September at 7:30pm CAFRE will be hosting a webinar with guest speaker and equine vet Chris Akkari from K. R. Equine Veterinary Services. Chris will give a vets perspective of the pre-purchase examination covering topics such as;

  • What is the examination,
  • What will the vet do,
  • What is the vet looking for,
  • Why is it important.

Chris graduated from The University of Nottingham in 2013. Following graduation, he completed an equine internship at Oakham Equine Hospital in England. It was here, working under a very experienced team of surgeons and sports horse practitioners, that Chris developed his passion for imaging, orthopaedic assessments and lameness work ups. Following his year at Oakham Chris moved on to become an ambulatory vet at the world renowned Rossdales. Chris later rejoined the team at Oakham into a position with both ambulatory and hospital-based roles. More recently Chris practiced at Tullyraine Equine Clinic where he further developed his interest and experience in lameness and poor performance. Chris is an accredited FEI treating vet, on the Cavan Vetting Panel and is part of the treating vet team at Down Royal, Downpatrick and the local point to points. Chris is also the Northern Ireland Representative for the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA). Chris is a partner in KR Equine Vets who now employ four full time specialist equine vets covering Down and Antrim.

This webinar is for anyone who is thinking about buying a horse or wants more information about what is involved in a pre-purchase examination.

The webinar is free, but participants must pre-register
