NI Science Festival – Perfect Greens

Various Dates

Greenmount Campus

As part of the Northern Ireland Science Festival Week activities for schools, CAFRE is delighted to invite students to explore Horticulture Matters. Horticulture staff at Greenmount Campus are offering a hands-on workshop to spend some hands-on time with our horticulturists learning about greenkeeping.

Have you ever watched golf and wondered how they cut the grass so short? Have you wondered how they get the green so smooth the ball rolls along it like carpet? In this interactive workshop we will explain all of this and more as we tell you all about performance standards and what they are.

With a focus on the GCSE Applied Science specification, spend some hands-on time with our Agronomists learning about golf greenkeeping and watch key performance measurement techniques in action. You’ll learn about surface standards expected by golfers, the tools used to achieve these standards and how they are applied in both the elite and amateur games leading to some of the most exciting moments in sport.
