NI Science Festival – Marvellous Microbes (Aseptic Techniques)
19 Feb 2025
Loughry Campus
As part of the Northern Ireland Science Festival Week activities for schools CAFRE is delighted to invite students to explore microbes. Food staff at Loughry Campus are offering a hands-on workshop.
Make microbiology come to life with a practical day of learning at Loughry Campus, Cookstown.
Friend or foe? Some microbes tend to have a bad name with food poisoning incidents and others can be a nuisance by spoiling our food. However, without the activities of microbes there would no bread, cheese, beer or chocolate!
With a focus on the GCSE Applied Science specification, spend some hands-on laboratory time with our Food Microbiologists learning about microbes and watch key aseptic techniques in action. You’ll learn about autoclaving, inoculating and how modern technologies harnessing the magic of bioluminescence are leading the way in achieving rapid results.
- Wednesday 19th February- 9:45 am – 12:30 pm
