NI Science Festival – Could you outperform a horse?

Various Dates

Enniskillen Campus

As part of the Northern Ireland Science Festival Week activities for schools CAFRE is delighted to invite students to explore the heart. Equine staff at Enniskillen Campus are offering a hands-on workshop to focus on the functioning of the heart.

Do you think you could outperform a racehorse? In this session you will look at the differences between the horse and the human heart and discover if your heart could power a horse to win a race. Using some of the latest technologies available you will assess a racehorse’s movement and stride length to compare to your own. You will discover how fitness can improve physical performance.

With a focus on GCSE Double Award Science, this session will cover areas of biology in terms of the structure, function and adaptability of the heart. You will also touch on topics within the Physics module when assessing how speed, force, weight and pressure affect everyday movements.
