B.E.E.F. (Better Economic and Environmental Finishing) Themed Group

A themed group focused on Beef Finishing linked to the Beef Sustainability Package has been launched by CAFRE.  This short-term initiative (up to two years) will help farmers focus on reducing age at slaughter in line with the DAERA Beef Carbon Reduction Scheme, increase resilience on farm and avail of mentoring and peer to peer learning on farm.

Meetings will be held on members’ farms, with host farmers receiving a hosting payment. Sessions may be delivered by CAFRE Advisers or other industry experts, focusing on improving the performance of finishing beef animals.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must be a member of a valid Category 1 DAERA farm business, however, a person other than the applicant can represent the farm business at training events* (see below).

Applicants and persons attending training events (if different to the member) must be 18 years old or over on the start date of the themed group (start date indicated at enrolment).

Participants must be willing to host a group training event if requested. (section 6.10)

Participants must be willing to share knowledge, experience and farm performance information with fellow group members.

Participants can be a member of one Themed Group only at any one time (with the exception of Water Quality) and must not be a member of a Business Sustainability Group (BSG) for the same enterprise type e.g. a member of a Beef Finishing BSG, must not apply for a B.E.E.F. Themed Group.

*The business may be represented at training events by a person (over 18 years of age) other than the member. Persons representing a farm business should not be a member of the same or any other themed group. A person can represent one business only at a themed group. In the event of multiple applications made by the same business, the first application will be progressed, and subsequent applications will be disqualified.
