What is your woodland worth?

Following on from the recent woodland courses that looked at Hardwood and Timber End Uses, CAFRE is pleased to be able to offer a further half day course for farmers and woodland owners interested in managing woodland and who wish to realise the opportunities existing timber may present for their farm. This course will look in detail at how timber is best prepared for sale and subsequently valued. The course will also discuss getting timber to roadside, dealing with windblow and clearing. The course will look at the practicalities involved through demonstration, discussion and practical exercises.

During the course we will demonstrate:

  • measuring the volume of the logs
  • desirable lengths to cut them to
  • what species to sell and to whom
  • how to present logs
  • how much are they worth.

Course dates:

Thursday 22 January 2026, starting at 9:30 am – fully booked

Thursday 12 February 2026, starting at 9:30 am – fully booked

Please register your interest to attend a future event.

The course will be held at Ballytrim Sawmill, Killyleagh and will be led by Clarke and Katie Cunningham.

Course numbers will be limited to allow full group interaction. The morning session will be an outdoor demonstration where you will need good outdoor, waterproof clothing and safety boots and a chainsaw helmet if you have one.

Lunch will be provided, and the course will finish with a group discussion.
