Pesticide training – PA6AW – Knapsack Sprayer in or near water

Anyone who uses Pesticides (approved for use in Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry) in the course of their job is legally required to have a Certificate of Competence in the Safe Use of Pesticides.

PLEASE NOTE: In order to achieve this certificate, PA1 Foundation module must be completed and passed.

This training and assessment requires you to be able to read and understand a pesticide product label and to carry out some calculations. An alternative to this training and assessment would be to get someone with a Certificate of Competence in the Safe Use of Pesticides to apply pesticide for you or have another family member trained to get the Certificate.

Who is the course for?

Anyone who uses Pesticides in or near water (approved for use in Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry) in the course of their job.

NOTE: PA6AW is a specialised area of training and will only qualify a successful candidate to spray in or near water not general use. This training it is generally undertaken by an operator that already is qualified as a PA6A operator. However, although not recommend, it can be done as a standalone qualification.

Course Content
  • Knowledge of the sprayer and nozzles
  • Interpret product label
  • Check the sprayer
  • Calibrate the sprayer
  • Prepare and add pesticide to tank
  • Carry out an environmental risk assessment
  • Special precautions around water
  • Apply the pesticide
  • Cleaning and records
Course Assessment
Training and assessment will occur on separate days. Training will take a day with Assessment approximately 3 hours on a separate day following. It is recommended to combine PA6A with PA6AW as both assessments can be one on the same day, please speak to one of our team for more information on this option. The assessment will be done by an approved City & Guilds assessor via one to one questioning and practical application of an area.
