Orchard Management

Small orchards are an important habitat on Northern Irelands farms. Traditional orchards have been funded under agri-environment schemes in the past and continue to be done so through the Environmental Farming Scheme (EFS).

Who is this course for?

Anyone who is involved in the ownership or care of a small orchard. It is relevant to those who have recently planted an orchard and those who have an age range of trees. Demonstrations in pruning management of both young trees and older trees will give confidence to allow fruit tree shaping to maximise fruit yield and size. Soil fertility, tree protection and disease management will also be discussed.

Duration of course

The training will run from 10.30-12.30, located in the old orchard at Loughry Campus Cookstown with a range of older and younger trees which were planted 4 years ago.
