This 1st4Sport accredited qualification is designed for individuals passionate about equine care and management. Delivered entirely online via video call, this course offers flexibility and expert guidance without the need for full-time college attendance. The final assessment will be held in-person at CAFRE Greenmount Campus, Antrim or CAFRE Enniskillen Campus.

Some experience in horse care and management is required.
Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at participants wanting to gain a recognised qualification in horse care and management without having to attend the full-time college. People who will find benefit from attending the course are: private owners, small scale breeders, animal welfare officers, leisure riders and non-equine vet nurses. Some experience of caring for and managing horses is required. The qualification can be taken by anyone aged over 16, however we would recommend that those taking the course are aged over 18 or do not have other exams whilst the course is running.
Course content
The qualification is composed of six units:
- Principles of stable routines (mucking out, grooming, bedding, post exercise care, and health and safety
- Principles of basic horse health and welfare (recognising signs of good health and ill health)
- Principles of training and preparing horses for work
- Principles of transporting horses safely (clothing, vehicles and safety precautions)
- Employment rights and responsibilities in the land-based industries
- Health and safety in the horse industry
