Level 3 Certificate in Packaging

The PIABC Level 3 Certificate in Packaging is a nationally recognised qualification that has been designed to provide learners embarking on a packaging career or those that interface with some aspect of packaging handling or management with a solid foundation in the many aspects of the packaging industry.

Course content

The course provides learners with a broad knowledge of the principles, materials, processes and key elements of packaging production and use.

The qualification is comprised of six units:

  • Role and functions of packaging
  • Packaging development process
  • Packaging sustainability
  • Packaging materials and formats
  • Printing and decoration processes
  • Packaging line operations

Who is this course for?

This qualification is appropriate for those wanting to enhance their employment and progression opportunities in the packaging and agri-food industries.

Course Entry Requirements

As a guide for entry, candidates will normally be expected to have a minimum attainment of  5 GCSEs at Grades A-C (or equivalent) plus the key skills of numeracy, communication and IT.

Alternatively substantial relevant industrial experience may also be the basis for successful study.

Delivery

The course will be delivered on Thursdays, commencing 6th March 2025, for 12 weeks.  Classes will run from 10am-3.30pm weekly.

Assessment Method

This qualification is assessed by one 2 hour closed book examination, which will be held on Tuesday 3rd June 2025. A written assignment will also be part of the assessment, with a suggested word count of 3,000 words, which must be submitted by Wednesday 31 December 2025.

The qualification is awarded at Pass, Merit or Distinction to learners who successful complete all six units, exam and assignment.
