Level 2 Apprenticeship in the Equine Industry

Completing an Apprenticeship programme will develop your practical skills and provide you with the underpinning knowledge relevant to your work in the equine sector.

Areas of study include:

  • Caring for horses after work
  • Clean and maintain stables
  • Cleaning and grooming
  • Feeding and watering horses
  • Monitor and maintain health and safety
  • Monitoring the health and well-being of horses
  • Plaiting and trimming
  • Preparing horses for exercise
Course Entry Requirements

Normally two Grade Cs or three Grade Ds at GCSE or equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics.

Students who have not attained a Grade C or above in English Language, Mathematics or ICT at GCSE or equivalent, will complete Essential Skills qualifications in Literacy, Numeracy or ICT as part of the course.

Those wishing to undertake the riding unit should be at British Horse Society Stage 1 Level.

Applicants to Apprenticeship Programmes must be about to take up or already be in paid employment in Northern Ireland, working a minimum of 21 hours a week. Applicants must also demonstrate that they have a minimum of 40 hours of experience in the equine industry which can be acquired prior to leaving school.
