Introduction to farm woodland – tree thinning
Following on from our initial courses profiling end uses for timber, CAFRE is pleased to be offering the next in our series of courses for farmers who are interested in learning about managing an existing woodland. If you have recently planted a woodland or are planning a woodland enterprise this course will aim to allow you to understand the practical issues involved in managing a woodland that will produce timber fit for sale.
This is a full day course designed to address the essential work of selecting the right tree for thinning. The course will also show you how to undertake essential maintenance from planting through to harvest and will include formative pruning of broadleaf’s aged 1-5, year 4 stock selection for thinning and thinning from year 8 onwards.
This course will be interactive (including some small pruning exercises) and informal in approach with practical sessions being held outdoors. Please dress accordingly with warm waterproof clothing, eye protection and safety footwear. Lunch will be provided by Ballytrim Pantry.
The courses are designed with small numbers to allow you to get your questions answered and to learn new skills and knowledge from this leading business, so early booking is recommended.
