Hedge Laying

Hedge laying is the traditional method of rejuvenating hedgerows to maximise the shelter and biodiversity opportunities that hedges provide on NI farms. Hedges are a priority habitat and are particularly important due to the low proportion of woodland in Northern Ireland. Hedges enhance the appearance of the countryside, maintain our traditional field boundaries and provide a valuable habitat for a variety of plants and animals. This introductory course is designed to demonstrate the skills and techniques involved with laying a hedge.

Who is the course for?

Farmers, growers and conservationists who wish to restore and maintain hedgerow habitats.

Dates

New dates for our next courses will follow. This is a one day practical course on the skills of hedge laying.  During the course an instructor will demonstrate the techniques involved and then attendees will have the chance to lay a section of hedge.
