Cloughbane Farm Foods Ltd are currently recruiting a Technical Manager.

Reporting to:  Production Manager, and Family Management

Purpose: To manage adherence to the internal and external quality standards for the company’s products and to participate in new product development thereby assisting the company to grow in a profitable manner.

Key Responsibilities:

To assist in the the following areas.  Key areas will be assigned to you for your sole responsibility as the job develops:

  • In conjunction with the management team, contribute to the formulation of the short, medium and long term business strategies for the company and create the company’s technical operating plans, establishing targets and metrics that allow for meaningful audit of success.
  • Manage the company’s quality standards and monitor, control and update existing quality systems.
  • Develop existing HACCP systems in line with legislative requirements for the industry and recognised standards as appropriate and assist the technical and production manager in the development of BRC standards
  • Ensure performance of critical tasks to maintain product quality (eg. calibration, temperature monitoring, etc.).
  • Effectively manage high risk production areas.
  • Ensure inspection of incoming and outgoing goods and investigation of all customer complaints and supplier deficiencies.
  • Manage the continuous development of the company’s range of products through research into market trends in food production and proactively identify new products and processes that will enhance the company’s offering to its customers.
  • Ensure that all new products are thoroughly tested prior to their introduction to the marketplace through the use of internal and external taste panels.
  • Ensure that production of any new product ranges complies with the quality standards and import requirements of relevant markets.
  • Ensure that product labelling complies with government regulations.
  • Manage the purchasing of foodstuffs and packaging and negotiate with suppliers to ensure the company is receiving the best value goods at the best prices, choosing suppliers that ensure provision of service on the company’s terms.
  • Monitor the various stages of production, ensuring that quality checks are being carried out, and monitor stock rotation.
  • Supervise the despatch department, to ensure all product goes out to the standards required for the company
  • Liaise effectively with other departments within the company such as Production, Despatch, Transport and Administration and ensure good internal communications exist.
  • Design and implement training for production operatives relative to quality, HACCP and any revised work systems/procedures as a result of the introduction of new products.
  • Monitor customer and supplier feedback, coordinate with customers to take corrective action and make improvements to systems and methods based on feedback received.
  • Design and deliver technical presentations to customers as required.
  • Review, revise and write technical policies, procedures and standards for the company and remain current regarding changed or new legislation relevant to the food industry.
  • Manage external relationships with universities, laboratories or other organisations for the purpose of acquiring new knowledge or access to technology in order to diversify the company’s product range.
  • Manage statutory health and safety requirements within the production area, ensuring policy and procedures are updated and operatives trained in safe working practices.
  • Develop and oversee a matrix for product tasting of existing products.
  • Any other duties, within reason and capability, as determined by the Senior Management Team
