The role

At Stormont Vets we believe a Registered Veterinary Nurse is worth their weight in gold. We are a young clinic and you will be our first RVN. We want someone to join the team here to shape the nursing role in the clinic and help us continue to improve our patient care. To that end you must be motivated, an independent thinker who can work as part of the team, follow instruction but also challenge us to improve our work and protocols. You will care for in-patients, assist the vets, monitor anaesthetics, set up nurse-led clinics and perform nurse consults. You should be confident triaging patients, taking radiographs, blood samples, placing IV catheters etc. Reception duties and administrative tasks will also be part of your role. We intend to become a nurse training practice, along with the vets the nurse will help train our student nurses. In addition, we aim to become a practice standard approved clinic and a silver cat friendly clinic; we want a nurse who will help our senior vet drive this process forward. The successful candidate will be required to work 40 hours per week, mainly split over Monday-Friday but you may be required to work Saturday mornings on a rota basis.

About us

Stormont Vets is a young clinic having opened in March 2020. We have a small team who are passionate about providing great service to our clients and high-quality care to our patients. We love creating a great relationship with our clients and their pets, so we know them the minute they walk through the door and their pets love to come to see us. We strongly believe in continual personal development to ensure we stay up to date with the latest evidence-based medicine. Therefore, we are very supportive of team members wishing to undertake further training. We serve clients from Dundonald, East Belfast and Holywood. Our modern spacious clinic is well equipped with x-ray, ultrasound, dental x-ray, endoscope, multiparameter anaesthetic monitor and an in house Idexx laboratory. We continue to follow government and RCVS Covid-19 guidelines, made easier by the size of the clinic and our small team. We offer a referral dental service one day per week, on that day we are very busy with dental procedures so an interest in dental health would be of benefit to the applicant.

Applicant requirements

Applicant must be a RCVS Registered Veterinary Nurse with the experience and confidence to work as the sole RVN in the clinic promoting and developing the role of nurses in the team. They must have the drive and ambition to enhance the service provided by the clinic. Experience processing pet insurance claims is preferable but not essential.

As a BAME and LGBT+ inclusive employer, we are keen to hear from candidates from all minority and diverse groups.

As a Disability Confident Employer we are keen to hear from candidates with disabilities and long term health conditions, and would be happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments needed during the recruitment process.
