Greenkeeper

County Armagh

County Armagh Golf Club wishes to appoint a Deputy Head Greenkeeper and /or a Greenkeeper for the coming playing season.

Subject to restoration of income levels the Club may only be in a position, in the short term, to appoint one of these posts. A register of eligible candidates will be maintained for both positions for a period of 18 months.

County Armagh Golf Club, established in 1893 and situated in the heart of Armagh City, is seeking to appoint a Deputy Head Greenkeeper to achieve, as part of a dedicated team, the ambitious development plans which the Club has embarked upon.

With impressive views over the ecclesiastical capital of Ireland, the course is already of championship standard and plays to a par of 70. Noted for its array of fine beech, oak, sycamore and birch trees, the course is always presented in immaculate condition. Development plans include preservation of those trees, improved drainage and alterations to some holes to meet the challenges which modern golf equipment have created for established clubs.

The successful candidate for the Deputy Head Greenkeeper post, will preferably possess a recognised qualification in Turf Maintenance, Horticulture or Golf Course management with at least 5 years’ experience in the management or maintenance of a golf course.

In the case of the Greenkeeper’s position a minimum of 18 months’ experience is required.

For both posts it is essential that the successful candidate has a full clean driving licence and the ability, demonstrated by recent experience, to operate all types of golf course maintenance equipment including but not limited to

  • mowing machinery,
  • spraying equipment,
  • sand spreading appliances,
  • verti-draining and tining equipment,
  • leaf blowers (both hand-held and tractor mounted)
  • drainage digging equipment

Preference will be accorded to candidates who have led teams of staff in golf course maintenance and who have recognised certificates in the use of spraying equipment (PA1,PA2,PA3 and PA6).

For the Deputy Head Greenkeeper’s post a record of significant achievement of standards of excellence in the maintenance of a golf course will be the determining factor in any appointment for which the Club offers a competitive salary and other benefits. The Club operates an annualised hours system and requires staff to participate in a rota for maintenance of the course at weekends.

Applications can be made by submission of a CV and 3 references from previous golf club employers to info@golfarmagh.com. Referees will only be contacted in the event of an appointment.
