STUDENT WORK SUMMER VACATION (Ref No: 19/V443/JS)

ESTATES SERVICES – MALONE PLAYING FIELDS & GARDENING SERVICES

Queen’s University Estates Services requires students to provide assistance.  These posts are available from  June to September 2022 working thirty-seven hours per week.  These posts will involve working on the Main Site and at the Malone Sports Facility at Dub Lane, Upper Malone Road, Belfast

Main duties associated with these posts are:

  • General maintenance of University estate – hard and soft landscaping e.g. grass-cutting, hedge-cutting, planting, sweeping, litter lifting and driving;
  • Sports pitch maintenance – grass and synthetic surfaces. Hard and soft landscaping – grass cutting, line marking, operating ride on and pedestrian mowers, tractor driving and other vehicles, litter collection.
  • Carry out any other duties which are appropriate to the post as may be reasonably requested by the supervisor.

Essential Criteria:

  • Show experience of grounds/ gardening work or relevant laboring/ outdoor work;
  • Willingness to work overtime, as and when required, to prepare for graduation.  
  • Possess a full valid driving license;
  • Any other requests for holidays must be approved by the Line Manager in advance.

Please note, the interviews for these posts will take place before commencement  

Payment: approx. Minimum wage £9.50  
As above at enhanced Overtime rate x 1.5

Health & Safety Considerations

  • All necessary health and safety training will be provided for the role
  • Induction training will be provided to carry out the role
  • PPE will be provided as appropriate for the role to include (but not limited to) safety footwear and gloves
