Dairy Manager

Crofthead Dairy is a progressive dairy business situated in the heart of South West Scotland, farming over 1940 acres of grassland spread across the main dairy unit at Crofthead and 2 further satellite dairies and local heifer rearing units. The business employs 23 full time staff. The main herd consists of 1100 red and white dairy cows, averaging 9000 litres, calving all year round, with 80% of the herd housed all year, fed a total mixed diet based on grass silage, distillery by product, cereals and a purchased blend. A small amount of concentrate is fed through the parlour to target the highest yielding cows.

Role

Crofthead Dairy are looking for a positive and enthusiastic team leader/assistant manager to assist with the day-to-day management activities linked to milk production.  You will follow farm policies including day-to-day planning and staff management.

Milking
You will have overall responsibility for all milking activities within your team.  It is based on a rotary parlour, milking 3 times a day, working in shifts.

Animal Health
Monitoring and reporting cows’ conditions and follow protocols. Training on cow signals will be provided.

People
The successful candidate will assist with training new staff and allocations of jobs within the team.  They will also run the dairy in the manager’s absence.

Salary will be in the region of £30,000 dependent on experience and offers a bonus scheme along company pension scheme. A 3 bedroom family home is available.
