CAFRE enhances Industry Support with IFST-Approved Sensory Analysis Programme

December 19, 2025

Food Technologists at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) are preparing to achieve an IFST Foundation-Level accreditation for Sensory Analysis Training in early 2026. This accreditation will allow CAFRE to deliver a recognised and industry-approved course designed to strengthen the skills of food professionals in sensory science. Sensory analysis is indispensable for the food industry as it ensures product quality, meets consumer preferences, supports innovation, and provides critical insights for development, safety, and market success.

The Sensory Suite at Loughry Campus offers facilities to assess food products.

In addition to offering accredited training, CAFRE provides practical support for companies through the use of the sensory analysis suite. This facility meets British Standards and includes a fully equipped preparation kitchen, ten computerised assessment booths, and a behavioural assessment room for advanced consumer studies. These resources enable businesses to conduct detailed sensory evaluations and consumer research in a controlled product testing environment.

Furthermore, CAFRE Food Technologists can design and manage bespoke consumer panels tailored to specific industry needs, helping companies gather meaningful insights into product innovation and maintain high standards of quality.
