Root Cause Analysis Training at Loughry Campus
August 29, 2025
Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is a systematic approach to the identification of the underlying causes of a problem. By focusing on the root cause, you can effectively address the problem and prevent recurrence. Generally, RCA is used to investigate incidents, eliminate defects, and enhance systems or processes. CAFRE’s Root Cause Analysis Training course provides participants with the knowledge, skills and tools to enable them to confront a problem and ascertain what happened, how it happened and why it happened.
Root Cause Analysis can help food businesses protect the consumer from food safety issues, avoid costs associated with food recalls and withdrawals, protect business reputation and save money by focusing on resources.
The RCA programme delivered at CAFRE is designed to provide attendees with root cause analysis techniques and information on how to implement robust practices in the food industry. It can be delivered either in the Loughry Campus or on the factory site.
During the training CAFRE staff will discuss the factors that can influence the effectiveness of root cause analysis. The programme introduces the standard requirements for root cause analysis in quality management systems, and the problem-solving process is examined.

Elaine Wilson, who attended the programme May 2025, shares her experience of the programme: “I really enjoyed the Root Cause Analysis course. It was crucial that I could acquire the tools which would equip me in getting to the root cause of a problem. Open discussion sessions with other members of the food industry were also very instructive and encouraging.”
The next programme will be delivered: Friday 17 October, 9.30am – 4.30pm at Loughry Campus, Cookstown. For more information click here.
