Study Trip to Dunbia

November 27, 2024

Students undertaking the full-time MSc programme at Loughry Campus recently went on a study trip to Dunbia, Dungannon.

The visit began with an introductory presentation by Neil Swann (NI Site Manager). He explained the history and organisational structure of the business including the number of employees and divisions across the Dungannon sites. Students also had the opportunity to experience the processing within the primary site through a tour consisting of animal slaughter, fifth quarter processing, boning, trimming and dispatch. Tours were led by Neil Swann, Patrick Lavery, Harry Stevenson and Sophie Thompson.

An overview of the opportunities available within Dunbia was provided by HR Business partner Katie Morton. Sophie Thompson, the Agricultural Account Manager, discussed the opportunities she gained in the business that developed her skills for her current role.

The study trip provided examples of the application of leadership, managing production, innovation, marketing, communication, teamwork, and sustainability. These are key components delivered within the MSc in Business for Agri-Food and Rural Enterprise programme. This programme is suitable for graduates from a wide range of primary degrees e.g. agriculture, food, equine, horticulture, geography, and environmental.
