CAFRE to host Growing a Cut Flower Business webinar

February 10, 2022

CAFRE are delivering an online webinar on Wednesday 23rd February at 6:30pm to address the topical issues for cut flower growers. If you are currently growing flowers for sale or thinking of starting a small flower farming business then why not register.

CAFRE Horticulture Business Development Adviser, Berta Cunha with some filler cut flowers picked from the Walled garden at Greenmount.

Northern Ireland’s cut flowers are often harvested, packed and ready for sale on the same day. Compare this freshness to cut flowers grown around the world and often transported thousands of miles before they reach the shelves in Northern Ireland. Many of the locally grown cut flower and foliage products are available from local supermarkets, multiple retailers, florists, markets and from the farm gate.

Fiona Porter from Cotswold Country Flowers, will be the main speaker. Fiona has run a cut flower business from her small garden for the last 5 years. She will speak about her business journey, how her business has evolved, and about the business knowledge and skills she has learned along the way.

At the event we will also hear from CAFRE Horticulture Business Development Adviser, Berta Cunha, who’s remit includes, cut flowers. Berta will talk about filler crops and make suggestions for the new season cut flower production.

The event will offer an opportunity for the grower’s group NIFFA (Northern Ireland Flower and Foliage Association) to promote itself and discuss ideas on cut flower production.

If you are interested in cut flower or foliage production, please register for the webinar here

You will then receive a confirmation email message with instructions on how to join. Alternatively you can contact CAFRE Senior Horticulture Development Adviser, Kieran Lavelle for further information, email: kieran.lavelle@daera-ni.gov.uk
