Pink Poinsettias!

October 19, 2021

Horticulture Technologists at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE) are delighted to showcase Pink Princettias™.

‘Princettia™’ is a dwarf variant of Poinsettia, a popular Christmas plant. Princettia plants naturally colour in early winter, however Horticulture Technologists based at CAFRE’s, Greenmount Campus have grown a pink Princettia™.  In celebration the team are delighted to partner with Pretty ‘n’ Pink, Breast Cancer Charity to raise funds for their services.

The Horticulture Technology team explore innovative technologies and review scientific research. They then introduce these to the Northern Ireland horticulture industry who can adopt new technologies to further develop their products and business.

This latest project involved a manipulation technique resulting in Princettia™ plants developing pink (bract) leaves in October. With a little help from CAFRE’s Floristry students who assisted with some pre-dispatch plant decorations, the plants are being sold to support Pretty ‘n’ Pink,  Northern Irelands’ breast cancer awareness charity.

CAFRE is Northern Ireland’s only agri-food and land based college. If you interested in finding out more about studying at Horticulture with us visit our course pages.
