Belfast Dairy MAKEathon.

November 5, 2020

Get involved in a Dairy MAKEathon by creating healthier and more sustainable dairy products. This project provides a fantastic opportunity to access the vast range of dairy equipment in CAFRE’s Food Technology Centre.

CAFRE are delighted to be in partnership with Queen’s University Belfast in association with EIT Food to offer you the unique opportunity to take part in this specially designed MAKEathon.

The Belfast MAKEit Dairy is a unique blended MAKEathon where participants will work online in teams to create new business ideas. The ideas will be converted into physical prototypes with the support from the Food Technology Centre at CAFRE and the design team.

The challenge: How do we make healthy and sustainable dairy products?
How?

A MAKEathon works like a hackathon but with an additional opportunity to make a physical prototype of the ideas that you have generated.

The teams will work virtually to generate ideas and create digital prototypes using online tools such as Zoom, Slack, Miro etc.

This is a part-time MAKEathon. Kick of is 3:00pm 24th November and the Final presentations are on the afternoon of the 1 December.

On Day 1 (24th November) You will learn more about the design thinking approach, the tools available to you and about prototyping.

Days 2 and 3 (25th and 26th November) will be dedicated to generation of ideas and prototyping.

On the following 4 days (27-30th) you will work on the development of your product prototypes.

On the 1st December, we will hold an official closing ceremony and announce the winning team.

Who?

We are looking for inventive individuals aged 18+ with creative minds and practical ideas. You do not need to be a professional in the dairy supply chain or a dairy technologist. Bring your expertise, passion, and team spirit to work intensively in a team, and most importantly, be ready to take on the challenge. We are committed to diversity, and members of under-represented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.

What will be provided?

During the course of the Belfast MAKEit DAIRY, you will have access to expert webinars, workshops, online team ideation platforms, mentoring and a remote prototyping service. You will also be provided with home prototyping materials to bring your ideas to life.
